The Fire | Dallas Escape Room

11:27 PM. The phone call was startling. It’s never good when your boss is calling you after you have already gone to bed. “Our facility is on fire”. What? You must be kidding. “No, our facility is on fire. There are 10 fire trucks here putting it out. No one was inside, I got the call as I was going to bed, but everyone is safe, no one was in the building. I will call you first thing in the morning with our next steps.”

The next few days were filled with phone calls, insurance adjusters, inspectors, electricians, engineers, and sifting through the mess. Gloves, blackened hands, masks that filter out Carbon Monoxide, and a lot of burnt memories. Birthday parties, anniversaries, corporate team building events. We saw people win time and time again, building their relationships, learning to communicate, building up their team, marriage, and friendship. All in an effort to be better. There is nothing that can really prepare you for the unexpected sight of blackened walls, wet floors, and soot covered furniture. Nothing can prepare you for seeing a building that you put so much time, love, energy, and effort into, being such a wreck. As we walked through each room, memories came flooding back, like a tidal wave. Remembering specific customers, certain moments in time. And, quite honestly, it makes it difficult to process, because over the last two years, our customers became a part of our family. Which makes this building a home away from home. But it is only that, a building. We know we will rebuild. We will be back better than ever in no time.

What we are grateful for, is that no one was hurt. It happened late into the night, long after customers and staff had gone home. We are grateful for the firefighters that responded to the call. We are grateful for fire insurance, which is allowing us to rebuild. We are grateful for customers who have promised to return once we rebuild. It is going to be a few months. But we will be back with better designs, new games, a couple surprises that we will announce later on. We promise to keep you guys updated.

Until Next Time,
Lindsay, Assistant Manager
