How to Conduct an Interview
Have you ever wondered if conducting an interview in an escape room would be effective? You aren’t crazy for thinking this, in fact, we have done this, and have seen this done by other companies! Managing corporate interviews and assessing potential new employees can be tough. Not only are you trying to hire the right person for the job, but you are also trying to sift through the handful of people who’s resumes actually made it onto your desk. Let’s be honest, that can be stressful.
There is so much information we need in order to make an informed decision, and quite honestly, a 30-minute interview rarely answers all of our questions. A vast majority of the things we need to know cannot be answered by simply asking someone.
- Do they thrive in a stressful environment?
- Are they a leader?
- Do they follow directions?
- Are they able to problem solve and think critically?
- Do they work well on a team?
- Can they break down a big picture goal into small, workable steps?
These are all difficult to answer because few people are honest when these questions are asked. They answer with the response they think you want to hear, not necessarily the truth. This is why we love using escape rooms either before we hire someone or directly after hiring someone.
Escape rooms provide a unique opportunity to assess potential candidates and new employees. They give a corporate company the opportunity to see someone’s strengths and weaknesses. Watching someone work through an escape room answers all of these questions that feel like unknowns. Our corporate team building games offer a unique opportunity to see potential employees function in a stressful environment where they are encouraged to follow directions, think critically, and problem solve. Whether they are scavenging in a post-apocalyptic wasteland or escaping an elevator after an earthquake, they will be challenged in ways that are different from your average corporate interview. Escape rooms provide an interesting corporate interview technique that few have thought about.
Personally, I would love to put my 5 top candidates in an escape room and see which ones thrive. What we have noticed is that after the first 10 minutes, candidates tend to forget that someone is watching and their personality starts bleeding through. With you watching behind the scenes in our control room taking notes, your potential candidates are given the space they need to show off their skills and allow you to see who is the best fit for your organization.
The great news is that all of our escape rooms are now private and heavily cleaned between games. With hand sanitizer and mask requirements, we are providing a safe location and opportunity to find your ideal job candidate without any distractions or the worry of interviewing during the Covid-19 pandemic! It is possible to find the perfect person for the job, let us help you!
